we'll be back soon. Had a blast over there. Enjoyed staying and playing at the Brookdale Lodge in Santa Cruz, (the haunted hotel). My wife and I always watch Most Haunted with Derek Pakora. Not too keen on the rat running up the creek in the dining room though...

My name is Francois, I play bass guitar and I am fan of Simple Minds, and thus of you.
I adore your sound! I listen unceasingly Simple Minds (especially New Gold Dream album) just to hear you playing bass.
Then I try to reproduce songs. I said I try ;-).
I saw Newcastle show of 82 on DVD and you are incredible, how do you make to have such a sound? Which strings are you using for example. I stopped with my questions. In any case thank you Mr. Forbes because you gave me desire for playing bass guitar too.

how are you doing ? I always use an Ampeg SVT with an 8 X 10 Ampeg cabinet. The only effect I ever use is an MXR Flanger. I use Rotosound roundwound strings and Herco Gold plectrums.I also use my SOUL..

4GM european tour spring 2007, kicking off in Holland, bring your tulips and the band will sign them. If you don't have any tulips, Kelly, the merchandising lady, will be selling some in the foyer for a small price. You must sign a waiver stating you will not sell the signed tulips on Ebay.

I will ask Mick to bring his squeeze box, and will have Hans Kurzen on bass guitar, with yours truly on Lead guitar and vocals. Tam 'Yosser ' White will be your drummer for the evening. If Ian can make it, then he shall sing as well. Hello all you rstwhile party goers. Unfortunately, I can't go to Cairo with my lovely wife tomorrow, as I have cellulitis of the foot, which means I run te risk of having a deathly bout of DVT if I attempt the plane journey. The doctor grounded me this morning, so Wendy will be celebrating her birthday with our friends in Egypt and not me....bummer. At the moment. I can't walk nor drive, so Hans and I will rehearse as soon as we can, or once the penicillin kicks in. How many people do we expect to be at the do? thanx for all your get well messages. Today was the first day that I could put shoes on. What a result that was. I am over half way through the Flucloxacillin, so , another three days and I should be taking up ballet. i thought 'ee got an infection from kilt exposure of the knees in the states and it spread to dee foot over time.
not bad here in the states, except i have been working all weekend on the rediculous daylight savings time, and all my computers and servers at the school.
BUT tonight i get a reward, i'm going to see THE WHO in nyc!!!

they were great !!
i was impressed by Zack Starky.. he wailed those classics..there was a ton of old people at the gig with their kids and their grandkids. I always loved Pete Townsend guitar-ing, they played some Tommy, as welll as some new stuff. good time, i had a few drinky winkys, but not crazy.

Keep up the great music derek,you certainly came a long way from the night i carried your guitar up to the stage at stirling uni when you played with the minds back in 79.Whens the next gig local to Stirling you are playing mate?.

Derek - found your blog after listening to Kirsty MacColl's "New England" today for the first time in years. I remember thinking years ago "must find out who plays bass on that" and now, with the power of technology, I finally did. Work of art mate!
